The Epiconcept epidemiology team support international public health actors in all stages of projects

The epidemiology Department conducts activities such as applied research, strengthening epidemiological surveillance (setting up, conducting, evaluating), field epidemiology training, and scientific communication. It comprises a multi-national team of 20 epidemiologists, biostatisticians, data managers. All have broad expertise in many different aspects of applied epidemiology (medical, veterinary, biological, bioinformatics, health promotion), extensive experience in implementing and coordinating European and international projects, and an excellent track record of ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality outputs. In addition, the department works with a network of international consultants.

Applied research

The epidemiology department conducts applied research in epidemiology (surveys, programme evaluation, analytical studies), coordinates and conducts large  ulticentre studies in the field of vaccine preventable diseases. Activities include :

Epidemiological Surveillance & Response

The epidemiology department conducts activities in the areas of infectious diseases surveillance and outbreak response.

Strengthening surveillance and Response

  • Development of surveillance systems: writing protocols, defining surveillance indicators, identification of data sources, etc
  • Strengthening surveillance and response systems at national and regional level
  • Analysis of surveillance data
  • Automatisation of surveillance reports
  • Evaluation of surveillance systems
  • Participation in international responses (e.g. deployment with GOARN)

Surveillance data management & Biostatistics

The epidemiology department provides data management and biostatistics services applied to surveillance data of communicable diseases. 

The team coordinates several projects providing expertise, analysing data, developing scripts (for R, STATA, EpiInfo, etc.), developing and delivering training materials, writing protocols or guidance documents.



    Field epidemiology training, capacity building

    Our training strategy is based on “learning by doing” and includes :

    Scientific communication

    Scientific communication and sharing results is a key aspect of any research or surveillance project. The epidemiology department supports scientific communication through :
